Popcorn-eating Monsters are meeting in the Library!

Yes, the P.E.M. club had their first meeting last night.   Among other things (snacking, gabbing, planning!) we shared our favorite reads from the summer.  Here's a sampling of the books we've enjoyed reading this summer---as you'll see, we're a varied group, and our choices are all over the map, from re-visiting series that we started back when we were younger, to exploring cutting-edge YA titles, to reading some stuff off of the adult fiction shelves. One thing we all have in common, though--we love to read, and we love to talk about it!

S. spent part of her summer reading The Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien.  She LOVED it (yay!) and is totally looking forward to the Hobbit movie in December--we all are!

H. really enjoyed reading Stealing Magic by Marianne Malone.  It's the sequel to a book she read a few years ago, The 68 Rooms. If you enjoyed that one, and haven't read the sequel, give this one a try!

A. has been reading the "Matched" series by Ally Condie.  She loves this dystopian adventure.  So does C.D., who read them last year.  They are both eagerly awaiting the third book in the series, Reached--due out in November!

N., on the other hand, likes to explore some of the books on the adult fiction shelves.  He's tried Stephen King, but finds that he prefers the creepy suspense of Dean Koontz.  Better him than me---I don't sleep so well after reading Koontz!

C.J. did TONS of reading this summer! She blazed her way through ALL of the Warriors books by Erin Hunter, read the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series by Ann Brashares and finished up the Hunger Games books by Suzanne Collins, too! She liked all of them so much she couldn't decide which one to bring in.
C.D. was hooked by the contemporary-issue YA novel Trafficked by Kim Purcell.  This page-turner offers a  harrowing description of life as an illegal immigrant nanny brought from Moldavia to southern California.

Whatever you enjoy reading, we'd love to have you join us--we meet the 4th Wednesday of each month (occasionally we reschedule around a holiday!) at the library.  Call (673-2288) or email (shydorn@amherst.lib.nh.us) Miss Sarah if you'd like some more information!
